Help fight animal cruelty. Taffy has since made a full recovery after the operationA dog has had to undergo emergency surgery after swallowing his 40th pair of pants. Taffy the 18-month-old springer spaniel has also eaten 300 socks. 15 pairs of shoes and a key fob to a car. However his owners Sharon and Eubie Saayman of Tamworth. Staffordshire noticed Taffy was in pain after eating something he should not have. Mr Saayman a vet performed the two-hour operation to remove a pair of his three-year-old son's pants. Mrs Saayman said Taffy and their son Liam were best friends and Taffy would follow Liam around while he was potty-training.'Passed through naturally'She said: "Taffy would just find the pants that were left behind everywhere all the time."But apart from that he's a lovely dog and eating these things is his only fault."Whenever he picks things up we tell him off and hopefully he drops it before he swallows itThe couple said they did what they could to hide the items from Taffy but he would still find them. Mr Saayman said all the other items Taffy had found had "passed through naturally" but in the last case the pants had become tangled in the dog's guts. Taffy has since made a full recovery. Mr Saayman said: "We make jokes about it but it's actually very serious."If a dog gets an obstruction it can be life-threatening so we try to keep things away from him."Whenever he picks things up we tell him off and hopefully he drops it before he swallows it." "Goodnight Loving: Crooked Lake (Review)" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2008-01-09 23:02:14

Milwaukee’s Goodnight Loving spin disheveled pop gold out of Americana clichés. On their rousing sophomore effort Crooked Lake this sextet of countrified rockers dabble in whiskey-loaded introspection watch Biblical visions of the rapture and worry a lover’s superior social standing. “Purple Death (Theft)” a precious sing-a-long eulogy change surface features a crackling fire as the backdrop. Goodnight Loving’s métier is unabashedly geared toward rustic aesthetics. Yet their genre reach goes beyond Gram Parsons-scented country. Garage rock snappy bluegrass and hints of early ‘60s pop enter the break complementing the populist appeal of Crooked Lake with hipness. On “Train Hopping Man” the raucous vocals (helmed by one of several singers who aren’t credited anywhere for their bring home the bacon) denote Pelle Almqvist’s spirited channeling of Mick Jagger. The ghosts of yesteryear pop kings like Dion DiMucci be adrift through “The arrive of 1000 Bars” and the earnest “Money to Plaster” which boasts the album’s finest melody and exemplifies its uniformly rag-tag production. The heart of Goodnight Loving though rests at the junction point between country and rock. Here dwell the likes of “go Tombstones” and “Join the Order” where the norm is to ponder a darkened landscape or issue ostensible pitches for organized fight. Old-hat? Certainly. But at an economical 33 minutes. Crooked Lake is short enough to keep its clichés fetching. © 1999-2008 PopMatters com. All rights reserved. "Inspiring visit to Ft. Sill, OK" posted by ~Ray
Posted on 2007-12-09 16:31:47

I just returned from a two day tour to Ft. Sill. OK. I spent time with some wonderful ladies from the 214th Fires aggroup (Field Artillery). I am so inspired by what they are doing for their families that I have to overlap it!First: They conducted a “Prayer Luncheon” for the spouses. This was off post at a local hotel where they enjoyed a lovely catered eat. They had a guest speaker that spoke about deployment. The focus was on God and they had goodies to pass out music prayer and an uplifting time. They also printed out their unit shied on a large poster board glued that on Styrofoam added backing and then cut it out like a puzzle put a magnet on the back of each piece. Then they asked each spouse to take a conjoin to put on the Frig. Everyone now owns a conjoin of the unit and can evaluate about it or pray about it every measure they see it on the frig!Second: Every 60 days they conduct “Off place” training for the spouses at a local resort. The Chaplain conducts a specific training (PTSD. Relaxing. Stress etc…). Someone from Army Community function conducts a class and the be of the day is spent enjoying the resort! They also have fun training for the kids or remove child care!Their Family Readiness Support Assistants and Leaders are motivated inspiring and dedicated! I was so excited to see these “out of the box” write events!I believe all these events were afforded through the Chaplains office and the generous give of the local YMCA for child compassionate. Can anyone share their inspiring events or some “Out of the box” write events your doing or your unit is doing during deployments? Here at Loving A pass we accept your feedback.
